武汉大学政治学科有着悠久的历史。早在1926年武昌中山大学筹建时即设有政治学系。1928年组建武汉大学后，法学院下一直设有政治学系，周鲠生、时昭瀛、刘乃诚先后担任系主任。李剑农、王铁崖、王世杰、楼邦彦等著名学者曾在该系任教，一度成为全国政治学的重镇。1952年院系调整时，政治学系被取消。1971年设立政治理论教研室，1980年改为马克思主义基础课部，时逢邓小平发出“政治学等学科要赶快补课”的号召。...
